The Cuban Missile CrisisThe Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation between the Soviet Union, Cuba, and the United States. During the Cold War the Cuban and Soviet governments began to build bases in Cuba for nuclear missiles with the ability to strike the United States. On October 14th a plane captured photographic proof of the bases under construcion in Cuba. This was one of the major confrontations of the Cold War and is regarded as the mo
ment in which the Cold War came closest to turning into actual conflict. The United States settled on a mmilitary quarantine of Cuba. The U.S announced that it would not permit weapons to be delivered to Cuba and demanded that the Soviets remove all offensive weapons and dismantle the bases under construction. The confrontation ended on October 28th when President Kennedy reached at agreement with Soviet Premir Nikita Khrushchev to return all weapons to the Soviet Union, and promise to never invade Cuba again.
